Import Export Code (IEC): Complete Guide for Indian Businesses

What is IEC?

Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit number issued by DGFT, Ministry of Commerce. Mandatory for any business importing or exporting goods and services from India. Without IEC, customs clearance is not possible.

Who Needs IEC?

• Businesses importing goods commercially into India
• Exporters of goods or services
• E-commerce sellers on international platforms
• Software/service exporters receiving foreign currency
• Businesses claiming IGST refunds on export services

Documents Required

1. PAN Card of the business
2. Aadhaar Card of the proprietor/director
3. Bank certificate or cancelled cheque
4. Proof of business address
5. Passport-size photograph
6. Class 3 DSC (for companies/LLPs)

IEC Application Process

1. Create account on dgft.gov.in
2. Fill ANF 2A form with business and bank details
3. Pay government fee of ₹500 online
4. Submit — IEC issued immediately in most cases
